Text of Celebration of life Service for Hazel Hester ( Sims) Fallwell- February 1, 2003

Taken from the notes and memory of Chaplain Boyd Fallwell (her son).

Let us pray... Dear Heavenly Father we love you today. Hallowed be thy name! Father we are assembled here in your house in the name of Jesus Christ to celebrate the life of one of your dearest saints Hazel Hester Sims Fallwell. Father we thank you for the life of Mama. We will always remember the beautiful thoughts of love and joy that she shared with us. Father this dear lady is loved by many so we are asking you to send the Holy Spirit to hover over this place with a holy hush. Father we need the comfort of your Holy Spirit right now as we know it is the only way to ease our earthly pain of the home going of this Mother and Grandmother. Father touch each and every heart here today as we are hurting. Father give me the words to speak and give us all the wisdom to understand that the passing of one of your saints is precious in your sight. We know Father that you see this service as a beautiful event because a dear Saint has gone home to be with you. Help us Father to understand this homegoing as a precious event also as we know this dear lady is alive and well right now in Heaven with you. Father we are eternally grateful for your love for us. Because of your great love we thank you for sending you son Jesus Christ who died on the cross for us to make it possible to have eternal life. Only because of Jesus, Mama is now home safe in Heaven. No more sorrow, no more pain, no more heartache never again. Be in our midst God as we celebrate the life of this Mother and Great Great Grandmother. We ask Father for the comfort of the Holy Spirit to be with these family and friends whos hearts are heavy and sad. Give us that comfort of the Holy Spirit and guide us Father in the days to come. Walk with us God, show us your loving kindness! Give us the strength and the assurance of your perfect love! Guide and protect us Father with your might as Your Holy Word will be a lamp unto our feet and a light unto our path. We ask these things in the name of Jesus Christ our Lord and Saviour. Amen.
This service will not be referred to as funeral service as our Mother is not dead, she is very much alive and well in Heaven so this will be a Celebration of Life service. Henceforth this Mother and Grandmother will be referred to as "Mama" because she is my Mama.
Mama has qualified for all of these blessings of Jesus in Matthew 5...
Here are the words of Jesus.
3 Blessed are the poor in spirit: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
4 Blessed are they that mourn: for they shall be comforted.
5 Blessed are the meek: for they shall inherit the earth.
6 Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled.
7 Blessed are the merciful: for they shall obtain mercy.
8 Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God. (Smile)
9 Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God.
10 Blessed are they which are persecuted for righteousness' sake: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. In Revelations 14:13 John writes... And I heard a voice from heaven saying unto me, Write, Blessed are the dead which die in the Lord from henceforth: Yea, saith the Spirit, that they may rest from their labours; and their works do follow them.
Mama has everyone of these blessings and many many more...

Music during the service: Farther Along... Precious Memories... Rev. James Fallwell singing "The Lighthouse"
Message: Today, for comfort and hope, let us turn our thoughts to the love of God for He cares for us. In the midst of our sadness may we turn to the words of God for strength. God is adequate for each situation and circumstance of life. At such a time as this we need to trust in the Lord God. He is a God of sympathy and understanding. He knows our hurt and loneliness. God knows exactly how we feel. The Bible tells us that He knows our sorrow and records our tears. (Smile) That all our thoughts, our ways and our words are known to Him. And that a book of remembrance is written before Him for those that fear the Lord and think upon His name.
Today we come to a time when we are face to face with the two greatest mysteries of the universe, Life and Death. Death is a certainty. One day we will all follow Mama! No one can escape it. I don't know the answers so let us go to the Bible, the infallible word of God, to see what God tells us about death.
God tells us in Revelation 21st chapter - 4th verse.. And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there shall be any more pain, for the former things have passed away.
Romans chapter 8 verses 38, 39 says, For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Jesus said in John 5:24 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life.
John 11:26 And whosoever liveth and believeth in me shall never die. Believest thou this?
Ecclesiastics chapter 3: verses 1-8 read, To everything there is a season, and a time for every purpose. God is telling us that there is a time for everything, even death. God also said, "To be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord", so Mama is in the presence of the Lord right now. I do know that God has everything under his control. We only need to trust in Him. Just look what he promised us. No more tears, no more pain, no more sorrow never again. We will never completely understand Gods thoughts for his thoughts are so much higher than ours. This is where trust comes in. We must trust in God. God's grace strengthens and restores us... We must know that we do not need to depend on someone or depend on something to give us strength! Through God's grace, we can overcome. We trust God and let divine grace bring us order and peace of mind... There is a power able to rise us above our grief and to comfort us in the face of death itself. That power is in the cross as we can see Jesus suffering with us and for us, we see an example of triumph over agony. We must remember that God is adequate for each situation and circumstance of life. At such a time as this we need to trust in the Lord God with complete confidence. He understands our dismay and knows the hurt and loneliness of each heart. He is well aware of our tears.
Romans 8:28 tells us, "And we know that all things work together for the good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to His purpose." When we have done everything we know to do and have said everything we know to say. We realize it isn't enough. Death forces us to trust in the Almighty God's boundless love. At death we come to the end of human knowledge, human power and human comfort. We are left to the mercy of God. Comforting it is, therefore, to have a God to trust in, and one who has perfect love, absolute knowledge, boundless forgiveness and infinite patience. God is love, there are two glorious facts we need to lean upon right now, "God is love, and He is merciful". When Jesus faced what He knew was certain death, He said, I am not alone, because the Father is with me. Jesus is saying now to this family and these friends. You are not alone for the heavenly Father is with you. God's promise is to never leave us nor forsake us. What a difference that assurance made to Jesus in dark Gethsemane garden just before he went to the cross and what a difference it can make to us today. Can there be any more comforting words for this family than, God is with you, His hand is upon you? If there were no God, we might despair today. If there were not Jesus, there would be nothing to give us consolation or to give us strength or hope for such an hour as this. But with Jesus we need not fear, we need to just trust in God.
John 14:1-6 Jesus said, Let not your heart be troubled, believe in God, believe also in me.
Mama is no longer bound to the misery of her frail body of this earthly life. Mama needed to be free and God set her free! When the Son of God sets you free you are free indeed!
To this dear lady was born nine children starting in 1925 and she raised us kids during the depression days of the 1930's and into the WW-II days of the 1940's. Mama raised us through the very hard times of the depression of unemployment and the dust bowl drought. Times were hard for this dear lady as I have heard Mama praying for us kids many times and God heard her prayers as Daddy and her were always was able to feed us, we always had clean clothes and had a good humble home. I don't remember any hard times as I was just a child in those days but I know now what Mama went through to raise us nine kids. Think of this scene in 1936, the hottest summer on record, 50 plus days of over 100 degree heat, at times the temperature was well over 110 degrees. I was three years old at the time, dust bowl days were here, no rain, just dust and no air conditioning. I always have thought, how did we survive? Well I'm sure to keep cool that I wore only a diaper or maybe wore nothing. I'm sure beads of dust were around my neck as this little fat baby sweated. I can only think of myself then as a hot stinking little baby, yet we survived very well. Mama took us to Sunday School regularly when we were small kids and we did not really want to go but we went as Mama took us with her, no getting out of it. She did not just send us, she took us to Sunday School with her. She knew the word of God would be implanted in our young hearts and minds as her prayer was for all her kids to be saved, and all nine of us kids were saved, thanks to Mama's direction and Jesus Christ dying on the cross for us.
We weep over Mama because of the fond memories. Such memories are a blessing. No one can take those memories from you. They brings tears now, but in the years to come they will bring joy. Joy comes in the morning! Paul said in I Thessalonians 4:15 not to sorrow over departed loved ones. But Paul did not intend to prohibit that natural sorrow which believers feel at the death of a loved one, but he did prohibit that sorrow which mourns in hopelessness, for our hope is in a living Savior Jesus Christ.
This dear lady was a soul winner. She led many to a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ. All nine of her children were saved because of her divine guidance. Many of her grandchildren have been saved by her witness. Mama visited nursing homes for many years to visit the elderly and pray with them. She led many to Christ in that ministry. She answered the telephones at TBN TV network for Oklahoma City. Praying with those who called in with problems and for prayer. She led many to Christ there also. Only Heaven will reveal the magnitude of this dear lady's ministry.
These scriptures I read have been comforting to those that are Christians. And it is a wonderful thing to rest in the assurance of Jesus. So those Saints whom we say die, they are alive with God ever more. John tells us, Peace Christ leaves with you, His peace He gives you, not as the world giveth. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid. This peace is the peace that passeth all understanding that one has when he or she knows that they are in the hands of Jesus Christ.
Do you have that peace today? This is Mama's celebration of life she would want me to ask you, each and every one of you, do you know Jesus as your Lord and Saviour? Mama knew Jesus! I know Jesus! You need to make sure that you are prepared to go. The primary question is not, When shall death come to me? But, Am I prepared for death, am I ready to meet my Creator and stand before Jesus? At the name of Jesus every knee will bow one day! We are promised eternal life if we bow our knees, believe and accept Jesus as our Lord and Savior. I John 2:25, And this is the promise that he hath promised us, even eternal life.
Jesus said in John 11:25-26, I am the resurrection and the life; he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live; And whosoever liveth and believeth in me shall never die.
(John 3:16) For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
If you wish to see Mama again one day, make sure you know Jesus as your Lord and Savior! God loves you and sees your needs, let Him meet those needs, lean on Him today and everyday. Let Him help you.
We cannot see into Heaven and cannot know exactly what it is like when one goes to Heaven. 1 Corinthians 9: But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him.
Yet go with me and picture this scene I have in my human mind of Mama going to Heaven... It won't even come close to the real thing but come journey with me...
Last Wednesday evening we were standing on the dock of the bay watching a beautiful magnificent ship set its sails. This mighty ship had stature, beauty and strength even so she was weathered as she had been through many storms. On August 3, 1908 this ship had been christened Hazel Hester Sims. Then sixteen years later in 1924 she was renamed Hazel Hester Sims Fallwell. The four winds came and her many sails puffed to the fullest. Her mooring lines were cast off and she headed out to sea with her full blown sails. We watched in awe as this mighty magnificent ship headed out to the other shore across the oceans deep. We saw her getting smaller and smaller as she sailed away but the diminishing size was only in our view point as she was still the same beautiful magnificent ship as she was when she was beside us on the dock.
When she reached the circle of the earth where the oceans blue meets the heaven blue sky on the horizon, she was only a tiny white spot from our viewpoint. Then someone next to me cried out, "There, She is gone". Gone? She was not gone, she was only gone from our sight! We just could not see her anymore. Then we heard other voices from the other side shouting in unison a glad and joyful shout, "Here she comes", "Here she comes". Many were there awaiting her arrival. Some had been there a long time waiting for her and they were exceedingly glad to see her.
Who was shouting that glad joyful shout? We saw our Daddy Cecil Fallwell leading the group shouting. Here comes Hazel! Here comes Mama! Mama had not seen her soul mate for 42 years. Standing beside Daddy was her third child, her first born son Leander Fallwell. Mama had not seen Leander for 58 years as God took Leander home to Heaven in 1945 at the age of 17. Also there were two great grandchildren there. Jason was there waiting for her in Heaven and also one of Mama's young great grandsons Kristopher. Two stillborn grandbabies were there very much alive and well. Picture the scene of the hugging and kissing that went on when Mama arrived in Heaven. Don't you know they are still hugging and kissing right now. Oh I cannot begin to describe it but what a beautiful sight, they met with no tears, only joy as there are no tears in Heaven. This is the, "Joy that comes in the Morning". Mama's morning of her joy has come. Joy unspeakable and full of glory!
We saw Grandpa Tom Sims there and standing beside him were five beautiful ladies. Grandma Ollie Sims and Mama's four sisters Gladys, Ona, Pearl, and Doris. They were shouting the glad shout, "Here comes Hazel". I cannot even picture the hugging and kissing of these sisters that went on when Mama arrived in Heaven as it is the Joy that is unspeakable. Whew, somebody say Amen before I float out of here.
The last of that Sims generation Uncle Albert is sitting right over here, a WW-II Navy veteran. Al knows about ships. Uncle Al even at 80 years old you may outlive us all as you gotta stay here because we need your fiddle playing to soothe our souls.
Yet one day Uncle Al your ship will sail! You will hear the glad shout of now six beautiful ladies and your beautiful wife Vesta. Al our joy comes in morning!
Yet before this great reunion happened the Heavenly Angels of God escorted Mama into the presence of Jesus Christ Himself. Jesus was standing there with arms stretched wide just as they were when he was nailed to the cross. Nails prints in His hands were clearly visible. He gave Mama a big hug and a holy kiss and said. "Welcome home Hazel, well done thou good and faithful servant". I can picture Mama kissing the nail prints in Jesus hands as that is our Mama! That is exactly what Mama would do! That picture came through real clear! Mama has seen the face of God! Mama is standing before God right now. Think of it, our Mama is walking with the Great "I AM" at this very moment.
This book is not a fairy tale, this book is real. This is the word of God! Mama is now face to face with the one who created the universe. Face to face with the one who placed the stars in the sky, the one who placed that huge ball in the sky 93 million miles away and said, "Let there be light", and an entire universe lit up, with warmth on this planet earth to sustain human life. Face to face with the one who took dust from this earth and created the man Adam, then breathed the breath of life into Adams nostrils and man became a living soul. Mama is now in he loving arms of Jesus Christ. She is face to face with our Lord and Saviour. Face to face with the King of Kings and Lord of Lords. Face to face with the one who saved us by his grace. Face to face with the Lamb of God who died for us to make it possible for the Joy that comes in the morning. Mama is face to face with the Living Water, the Bread of life, the Rose of Sharon, The Star of David, The Fairest of 10 Thousand, The Bright and Morning Star, Face to face with Alpha and Omega the Beginning and the End.
Let us pray... Dear Heavenly Father, we bow before you with humble and broken hearts, We know in our deepest thoughts, beneath our doubts and fears Father that thou are great. Give us the confidence and the strength and comfort we need in this hour. Father we lift our hearts in gratitude for the life of Mama; for all that she was to those who loved her, and for everything in Mama's life that reflected your goodness and love. Help each and every one of us to lean upon you dear God. May Almighty God, the Father; the Son; and the Holy Spirit bless you and keep you, now and forever more.
In the name of Jesus our Lord and Saviour we pray! Amen.
We will close with the words to the chorus of this song. If Mama could speak to you right now she would give you these words.
There is room at the cross for you... There is room at the cross for you... Though millions have come, there is still room for one, there is room at the cross for you...
At some point in the service Reverend James Fallwell blessed us as he sang about "The Lighthouse" Absolutley beautiful...

Commital at Pleasant Valley Cemetery Wheatland Oklahoma…
From the book of I Corinthians chapter 49 - 58
And as we have borne the image of the earthy, we shall also bear the image of the heavenly. Now this I say, brethren, that flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God; neither doth corruption inherit incorruption. Behold, I shew you a mystery; We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed, In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed... Yes we shall all be changed in the twinkling of an eye when the trumpet sounds the return of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ! Mama is in the presence of God right now in Heaven, walking with God! To be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord! Yet one day a miracle will take place right here in this cemetery! Right here on this spot where we place Mama's body. One day Mama's body will be resurrected. Mama's body will be raised and changed unto a glorified body just as Jesus Christ was raised from the dead unto a glorified body. Not of flesh and blood but a glorified body made in Heaven. Jesus is the first fruits of the resurrection and we shall follow. No this ground will not break open but after Christ returns and calls his saints, those who are asleep in Jesus, then nothing will be here in this ground. This will be an empty tomb just as the tomb of Jesus is empty as Jesus has already risen! Mama will be raised unto a glorified body to live forever more in Heaven. Yes we will recognize Mama in Heaven and she will recognize us as the Bible states that we will be known as we were known here on earth!
...For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality. So when this corruptible shall have put on incorruption, and this mortal shall have put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written, Death is swallowed up in victory. O death, where is thy sting? O grave, where is thy victory? The sting of death is sin; and the strength of sin is the law. But thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye steadfast, unmovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labor is not in vain in the Lord.
Ecclesiastes 12:7
Then shall the dust return to the earth as it was: and the spirit shall return unto God who gave it. Earth to earth, ashes to ashes, and dust to dust. The Lord gave and the Lord has taken away, blessed be the name of the Lord.
Let us look to God again in prayer:
Eternal God, and Heavenly Father, from whom we have come, and to whom our souls return. Oh, merciful God, Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who is the resurrection and the life; in whom whosoever believeth shall live, though they die physically. We know in our deepest thoughts, beneath our doubts and fears, that You are a great God. We commit Mama's body to the ground and her soul unto your loving merciful hands. Continue to put Your hands of comfort upon this family and these friends. Help them to rest in Your grace and assurance, and Your peace and strength. We will trust in You God to turn our fears into faith and our sorrows into joy! Oh Father God in Heaven again we thank you for the life of Mama. We will remember the good things and the joy she shared with us. We thank you for Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior. Your Holy Word will be a lamp unto our feet and a light unto our path. We ask for the comfort of the Holy Spirit to be with this family whose hearts are heavy and sad. Be with them Father in the days to come. Give them comfort and guide them Father. Walk with them, show this family your loving kindness! Place into their hearts Father the knowledge that they may one day see Mama again. Show them the way to eternal life through our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
Be with us God as we go our way. Guide and protect us with your might. We ask these things in the name of Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior. May the mercy and grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God with the fellowship of the Holy Spirit, be with us all evermore.
Amen.

Interment will follow at Pleasant Valley Cemetery, Wheatland, Oklahoma. Hazel was born on August 3, 1908, in Ponce de Leon, Missouri, to Thomas and Ollie Sims. Hazel's family moved to Oklahoma in the early 1920's and she married Cecil E.C. Fallwell in 1924. Hazel was a member of the Pentecostal Holiness Church for almost 80 years. She spent many happy years serving God and was a soul winner for Christ. There are countless fond memories of this dear lady lovingly called 'Mama' and she was devoted to her family and friends. This dear Saint of God was steadfast and unmovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord. Hazel was preceded in death by her husband, Cecil E.C. Fallwell, and one son, Leander Cecil Fallwell. She is survived by one brother, Albert Sims, of Midwest City; three sons and five daughters: Rowena Geurin of Del City, Lester Fallwell of Midwest City, Mildred Gabriel, Jim and wife Joy Fallwell, Boyd and wife Pat Fallwell, Betty and husband Daryl Bennett, and Retha Hendrix, all of Oklahoma City, and Mary Ellen and husband Ken McCoy of Eufaula. She also leaves a legacy of 33 grandchildren, 70 great grandchildren and 15 great-great grandchildren, making a total of 127 descendants. Mama and Grandma will be in our hearts and memories forevermore.

Amen.
