Son of Clark and Sarah Whiting Van Nostrand, of Jefferson County, Iowa.

One of seven children (four of whom died as infants or early in life), Andrew moved to Colorado in 1889 where he was active as a farmer and stock raiser until his retirement. He also took part in Monte Vista church and civic affairs and was a former county commissioner and school board member.

Van Nostrand was married to Louisa Spencer, also a former Fairfield resident, in 1891. At the time of his death he was survived by two daughters: Mrs. Edith Haigler and Ruth Van Nostrand, and one son Clark Van Nostrand, all of Monte Vista.

One daughter, Mrs. Pearl Hawkins, one borther, Lewis W Van Nostrand, and one sister, Mrs. Ben Gosick (Gossick), preceeded him in death.

[Obituary information from Fairfield Daily Ledger microfilm records, published Wednesday May 14, 1952. This publication date has been erroneously used in some family trees as the death date.]

Note: I do not have the specific plot location information other than the online burial listings provided. Any specific plot locations information for the family members buried (and linked to) in this cemetery would be appreciated by this contributor.

Contributor note: I was contacted in May 2009 for a photo request at Evergreen Cemetery here in Jefferson County, Iowa. The request was for, it turned out, a Caroline Schooley, who upon genealogy hunting at the Fairfield Public Library, turned out to be the second wife of Clark Van Nostrand - who was the father of Andrew B Van Nostrand (with first wife Sarah Whiting). This contributor has located the graves of this extensive Van Nostrand family in Fairfield as many of them are together in multiple generations. Finding Andrew B Van Nostrand and his family/descendants in Monte Vista Cemetery now completes these known family burials.

This was an interesting family to research and it was my pleasure to photograph the headstones and plots for this Van Nostrand family here in Jefferson County, Iowa. /rkt
