Basil was born in Kaufman County on March 7, 1931 to General Dewey Bannister and Oma Ella Shackelford. Basil married the love of his life, Verlan Morris, July 30, 1960 in Dallas, Texas.
He worked for Lee Way trucking for 23 years as a truck driver and then for the Lewisville Independent School District as a bus driver for the handicapped and special needs children. He loved driving those special children and the only reason he retired was because he started having trouble with his legs and he was concerned that he would not be able to get the children safely off the bus in case of an emergency. Basil was also an ordained minister and loved to travel.
Basil is survived by his wife of 48 years, Verlan Bannister of Lewisville; daughters, Belinda Crump and her husband, Charlie of Rockport, Texas, Deborah Dull of Hallsville, Texas and Nita Dismore and her husband, Larry of Snyder, Oklahoma; sisters, Wanda Dudley of Round Rock, Texas and Sharon Dobbs and her husband, Ken of Tucson, Arizona; brother, Travis Bannister and his wife, Jean of Garland, Texas; four grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren and relatives and friends.
Basil was preceded in death by his daughter, Linda K. Dennis and granddaughter, Natasha, November 2004. Visitation will be from 6:00p.m. to 8:00p.m. Friday, October 17, 2008 at Mulkey-Mason Funeral Home, Lewisville.
