Daughter of Andrew Leiter 1795-1880 and Susan Cook b1797 who were originally from Leitersburg, MD, removed to Crawford Co., Ohio and finally settled in Payne, Paulding Co., Ohio near the Indiana border. Andrew's ancestor Jacob Leiter 1670-1728 and wife Regina Hug b1685 came to America around 1727, living in Lancaster Co. (now Lebanon Co.), PA for a time before settling in Washington Co., MD. Jacob's line goes back to Mathias Luetert (Leiter) 1568-1631 and wife Kathrina Wynler 1570-1647 of Switzerland.

Sister of Elizabeth M. b1832 MD m. George W. Tooman, Susan Leiter and four brothers who all served in the Union Army during the Civil War. David C., Henry S. and John P. Leiter were in the 21st Ohio and all three served from the opening to the close of the war. John P. died about 18 months after his return from disease contracted during his service. Joseph P. Leiter served with the 99th Ohio as a musician.

Second wife of Jacob Haddox who was a farmer, a merchant and also owned and operated the City Hotel in Payne, Paulding Co., OH during the 1880's.
