Stanley D. Arnell 1919-2003, our wonderful husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, passed away peacefully on Saturday, Dec. 20, 2003, in Blackfoot, Idaho.

Stan was born on April 19, 1919, in St. Charles, Bear Lake County, Idaho to William Stanley and Lanore Pugmire Arnell. He grew up in Bear Lake Valley, where he attended elementary school in St. Charles and graduated from Fielding High School in Paris, Idaho. He attended Utah State University for one year. He served an LDS mission in the Southern States Mission from January of 1939 to January of 1941.

Upon his return home he married his high school sweetheart, Ethel Innes, of Paris, Idaho, on Feb. 18, 1941, in the Logan, Utah LDS Temple. Two days later he was drafted into the Army, where he served for five years during Would War II. Two of those years were in the European Theater. He was honorably discharged as a Major.

After the war, Stan attended Utah State University and Idaho State University, graduating as a pharmacist in 1950. He worked at pharmacies in Montpelier, Soda Springs and Blackfoot, Idaho. In 1961 he purchased the Nixon Drug Store, which became Arnell Downtown Drug, and in 1965 he built the Arnell Pharmaceutical Center. He operated both stores for thirty years before his retirement.

He was active in the community as a Rotarian, The Chamber of Commerce and United Fund. He served on the Blackfoot City Council for 17 years. He was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, in which he served as bishop's counselor, bishop, high councilor, in the stake presidency, and as an officiator in the Idaho Falls Temple for several years.

He is survived by his wife, Ethel; two sons, Russell (Margette) of St. Louis, Missouri and Roger (Tamra) of South Jordan, Utah; three daughters, Joyce (Hugh) Park, Sandy, Utah, Janis (Randy) Carson, Chandler, Ariz., and Julie (Dan) Jones, Layton, Utah; two brothers, Lorraine and Elwin (Aileen) Arnell of Salt Lake City, Utah; one sister, Nada Kilburn, West Valley City, Utah; fourteen grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
