MRS. PARKER SUCCUMBS AT FRANKLIN
FRANKLIN, JULY 28 - Mrs. Emily Virginia Norfleet Parker, 79, died early Sunday morning at her home on High Street, Franklin, after an illness of several days.
Mrs. Parker was the daughter of the late Alexander Wilson Norfleet and Indiana Virginia Edwards Norfleet, of Franklin, September 2, 1866 and lived here all of her life. In 1888 she married John Crafford Parker, who died in 1918.
She is survived by three children, Mary V. Parker and John C. Parker, Jr. of Franklin and Alex W. Parker, of Richmond. Also serviving are a sister, Mrs. Lelia N. Gardner, of Franklin, widow of A.L. Gardner; a brother, Herbert L. Norfleet, of Havana, Cuba, and fiave granddaughters, Misses Douglas McDaniel Parker, Emily Norfleet Parker and Dorothy Scarborough Parker, of Richmond, and Alice Fleming Parker and Elizabeth Williamson Parker, of Franklin.
The funeral will be held at 3:30 p.m. Monday at Franklin Baptist Church, of which she was a lifelong member. The services will be conducted by the Rev. R.D. Stephenson pastor of the church, and by Mrs. Parker's nephew the Rev. E. Norfleet Garner, of Henderson, N.C.
Pallbearers will be Dr. Beaman Story, C.C. Vaughan, III, Franklin Edwards, George H. parker and James L. Camp Jr. of Franklin; Virginius Dabney, of Richmond, and J. Laurence Eley and Herbert H. Cory of Norfolk. Burial will be in the family plot in Poplar Spring Cemetery, Franklin.

MRS. JOHN C. PARKER DIES HERE SUNDAY
Franklin lost one of its very finest people Sunday in the passing of Mrs. John C. Parker, who died as the result of a cerebral hemorrhage sustained several days previously. Mrs. Parker was 79 years of age and a lifelong resident of Franklin, her husband, the late John Crafford Parker, being among Virginia's leading citizens.
Mrs. Emily Virginia Norfleet Parker was the daughter of Alexander Wilson Norfleet and of Mrs. Indiana Virginia Edwards Norfleet, leaders in the founding of Franklin as a town, both prominent in the true and worth-while sense of the term. Mr. Norfolk was the leading factor in the establishment of Franklin's first Baptist church. Mrs. Parker, who was born here September 2, 1866, who died in 1918. She was always interested in her church and in the civic and cultural life of her towns-people. She was long a member of the Franklin Book Club, a charter member of the Franklin Music Study club, and member of the United Daughters of the Confederacy, American Legion Auxiliary and Daughter of the American Revolution.
She is survived by three children, Jno. C. Parker, Jr., of Franklin, Alex W. Parker of Richmond and Miss Mary V. Parker of Franklin, and by five grandchildren, Misses Douglas McDaniel Parker, Emily Norfleet Parker and Dorothy Scarborough Parker of Richmond and Alice Fleming Parker and Elizabeth Williamson Parker of Franklin. She also leaves one sister, Mrs. Lelia Norfleet Gardner, widow of the late A.L. Gardner of Franklin, and one brother, Herbert L. Norfleet, of Havana, Cuba.
Funeral rites were held Monday afternoon at 3:30 o'clock from the Franklin Baptist Church where Mrs. Parker was a lifelong member and in which she was active as long as her health permitted. The sermon was conducted by her pastor, Rev. R.D. Stephenson. Burial was made in the family plot in Poplar Spring Cemetery, the pallbearers being Dr. Beaman Story, Cecil C. Vaughan, 3rd, Franklin Edwards, James L. Camp, Jr., and George H. Parker, Jr., all of Franklin; J. Laurence Eley and Herbert H. Cory of Norfolk and Virginius Dabney of Richmond.
