Robert Kent Wright, 85, of Roanoke, Va., went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, June 3, 2009. He is preceded in death by his parents, Samuel A. and Alice M. Wright. Mr. Wright was a member of Melrose Baptist Church. He served in the United States Army Air Corps in World War II with the 336th Air Service Squadron in the Pacific Theater. After employment with Burroughs Corporation and Pitney Bowes, Inc., he owned and managed Wright's Business Machines until retirement.
Mr. Wright was a life member of VFW Post #1264, American Legion #3, Disabled American Veterans, Bayard Commandery #15, Knights Templar, Taylor Masonic Lodge #23, Kazim Temple, Scottish Rite Free Masonry, DC Shanks Royal Arch Chapter 31, Life member of Roanoke Moose Lodge #284, Moose Legion Blue Ridge #82 having served as Governor of the Roanoke Lodge and earning the Fellowship Degree.
He is survived by his wife, Rachel Elizabeth Wright; son, Robert Kent Wright II and wife, Janice; grandchildren, Whitney Nicole Wright and Robert Kent Wright III; stepchildren, William (Bill) Ervin Secrist and wife, Sheila, James Jeffrey Wilkerson Jr. and wife, Michelle, Elizabeth Diane Secrist Emery, and Leigh Rae Wilkerson Johnson and husband, Mitchell; step grandchildren, Stephanie Secrist Conner, William Bradley Emery, Michael Tyler Johnson, Katherine Renee Johnson, James Jeffrey Wilkerson III, and John Turner Wilkerson; step great-grandchildren, Ryan Secrist and Cassity Conner.
Funeral services will be held at noon on Saturday, June 6, 2009, at Oakey's South Chapel with the Rev. Larry Sprouse officiating. Interment with Military Honors and Masonic Rites will follow in Fairview Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday, June 5, 2009, at Oakey's South Chapel.
