Sylvia was the twin sister to Shelva Sansom and the daughter of Albert Ross Sansom and Rhoda Ann Linville. She and her sister loved the beach. She Married Rudolph Pruess. Her twin sister Vivian also lived in Florida.

Line 631 shows Rudolph Preuss, age 34 and Sylvia Sansom, age 35, were married 6.28.1941 in S. Charleston, WV. That marriage lasted less than 3 years. Sylvia's niece told me Rudy had to travel with his job and was very jealous.
Sylvia married Robert T. Iley in 1949 after she moved to St. Petersburg, FL. According to the same niece, Mr. Iley was only after Sylvia's money. Sylvia filed for divorce right after the honeymoon. It was final in 1950.
Sylvia was my great aunt.

(Great) Aunt Sylvia was the self-appointed keeper of the family history. She made lists of all her siblings, updated them every few years and gave the lists as gifts.
This is the list she typed on her script typerwriter of her parents and siblings. I think about what she could have done with a laptop computer!

What this does not tell you is how Aunt Sylvia helped her nieces and nephews. (This was the mid 1940's, after she was divorced from Rudy.)The ones I know about were Ermia "Erma" Gertrude Sansom, Cecil Grady Sansom (my father) and Betty Mae Sansom, children of Elza Snowden Sansom and Artimisha Ball Sansom. When the children were old enough (Dad was only 16), they left Julian, WV (in Boone County) and stayed with Aunt Sylvia at 7 Park Drive, in Charleston. They got a job and moved on. Later, Sylvia rented rooms to young single women. She was quite a woman for the time she lived in!

Sylvia used this Letter of Recommendation to get her out of the hollow and into the big city of Charleston, WV. She answered an ad in a Charleston newspaper and took her first job in Charleston as a live-in babysitter for Johnie Houvouras at 18 Delaware Ave. Johnie was the son of Pete and Mamie Houvouras. They owned the Fleetwood Hotel on Capitol Street.

Twins - my great-aunts
Shelvia "Vivian" Sansom Damron and
Sylvia Lillian Sansom
born 7.31.1905 in Bernie, now Griffithsville, WV.
Sylvia worked in Blair, WV and finished school in Stark, WV in May, 1922. She immediately moved to Charleston, WV where she lived until she moved to St. Petersburg, FL in 1949. After Vivian died in 1978, Sylvia lived for a short time in Brandon, FL with and near her niece, Phyllis Jean Damron Stickney. She later moved to Winter Park, FL to be near her nephew, Cecil Grady Sansom. She was still living in Winter Park when she died 1.31.1994. She is buried in the Curry Cemetery, just behing the Marmet Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Marmet, WV.

Sylvia Lillian Sansom moved from 7 Park Drive, Charleston, WV to St. Petersburg, FL in 1949. Her twin sister, Shelvia "Vivian", and her husband, Samuel "Grady" Damron, moved to St. Petersburg the same year. Grady had just retired as the Editor of the Charleston Daily Mail. Also in 1949, their older sister, Elvia Myrtle Sansom Lovejoy, (a widow) moved to St. Petersburg, FL bringing her young (adopted) son, Charles Ray.
