Irene E. Hawkins
Birth: December 1882
O'Hara, Allegheny County, Pennsylvania
Death: 1971
Sheridan, Pennsylvania
Betty Marsicek writes: One of the few identified photos in this album, this little girl was photographed by J.R. Pearson, Allegheny and Pittsburgh. Irene's name is on the back of the photo and in the front in her grandmother's hand are the words "Our Precious Darling." Irene was born in December of 1882, the first surviving child of John and Ella Barton Hawkins. Irene's mother died at the time of her birth and her grandmother and aunt Catherine Barton cared for her when she was a baby. In 1886 Irene's father, John Hawkins, married his first wife's sister, Catherine. Catherine was the widow of Henry Wilson and had three small sons when she married John. John and Catherine also had three children together.
Betty Marsicek writes: The album belonged to my great grandfather and his wife who was Ann Barton's sister. My people homesteaded in a very sparsely populated area in the Nebraska sandhills and all the photos have photographers logos giving the place the photos were taken.
