Alvert N. Barber, Born Nov. 9, 1879 near Wellington, Kansas, one of twin sons born to William and Jane Barber. His mother passed away soon after his birth, the twin brother two years later. He was raised by his grandparents, the A.A. Alexanders. He passed away at the Kearny County hospital at Lakin Oct. 31, 1953, at the age of 73 years, 11 months and 22 days. He with his grandparents, moved to Comanche county as a small child, and attended grammar school at district 42, Protection, Kansas. Alvert united in marriage to Orpha R. Edmonston on July 27, 1904, moving to a homestead in Woods County, Oklahoma, where the eight children were born and where he experienced and enjoyed all the life of an early settler. He later moved back to Comanche county and in 1925 to Kearny county where he resided until his death. He was preceded in death by his father, mother, brother, and one daughter. He is survived by his wife, Orpha, of the home; three sons, Ralph of Harrison, Nebr., Royce of El Dorado, and Wesley of Pueblo, Colo.; four daughters, Mrs. Edith Hubbard of Lakin, Mrs. Neva Nunn of Mitchell, Nebr., Mrs. Violet Haug of Protection, Kansas, and Mrs. Zelma Rust of Lamar, Colo.; 23 grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.
