June 23,1970 - October 30, 2005 Joel Damien Romig, 35, of Medford, passed away on Sunday, October 30, 2005 at home. A memorial service will be held at Table Rock Christian Fellowship 3608 North Pacific Hwy., Medford, Oregon 97501 on Saturday, November 5, 2005 at 10 a.m. Pastor Greg Rich will officiate. Interment will be held at Eagle Point National Cemetery on Monday, November 7, 2005 at 10 a.m. for family members.
Joel was born on June 23, 1970 at Rogue Valley Memorial Hospital in Medford to Kathleen Faye Romig (Christensen) and Robert Dean Romig. Joel was a fourth generation Rogue Valley resident. He lived in Ashland and attended Ashland schools until 1980 when his family moved to Medford. He attended Medford schools, graduating from North Medford High School in 1988. He was a letterman in football from 1986 through 1988. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy and became a Communications Specialist serving in the first Gulf War 1990-91. He was discharged with honors including a National Defense Service Medal and a Southwest Asia Service Medal (Bronze Star) in May 1993. On July 15, 1989, he married Natalie Wickersham in Reno, Nevada. They have one child, Kylynn Romig, who survives. After the military, Joel moved to Florida with his family and was employed as a car salesman. In 2000, the family moved back to southern Oregon and he attended Southern Oregon University (SOU) in Ashland. At the same time he worked for Southern Oregon Subaru-Volvo-Mitsubishi as a car salesman. He continued to work there until his death. In 2002, he and Natalie divorced. On February 23, 2003, he married Oksana Zryanina who survives. Joel enjoyed boating with his friends as well as hiking, snow boarding, fishing, scuba diving, and hiking. Joel loved his family very much. Anyone who knew Joel could see that his daughter, Kylynn, was the light of his life. He never wanted anything more than to spend time with her and to see her happy.
Joel is survived by his wife, Oksana Zryanina-Romig; his daughter, Kylynn Romig; his sister, Sarah Rivas; his former wife, Natalie Romig-Tripplett; numerous aunts; uncles; cousins; nieces; nephews; and his grandmother, Nelle Christensen. He was preceded in death by his brother, Drake Julian Marshall, in 1991.
Joel was a wonderful husband, father, brother, son, uncle, nephew, and he was a friend to everyone. He had a great sense of humor and a beautiful smile. He will be greatly missed by everyone.
