Her husband died when she was 37, leaving her with 5 young sons and 7 months pregnant with another son. She remained in Patchogue for 10 years after her husband's death. She then followed her 3 older sons to Shoshoni, Wyoming. Going with her were her 3 younger sons, her mother and Lucille Smith the daughter of her deceased brother Reggie. She stayed in Wyoming for eight years sometimes living in a tent on the prairie. The family worked as sheepherders. In 1914 Elizabeth, her mother and some of her sons moved to Florida, following her oldest son. She lived in Sanford, Wauchula and Brooksville. She was very active in various Women's Clubs in Florida, particularly those revolving around her son Kenneth's involvement in music. She lived with her son Marion in Dunedin, Florida for 3 years prior to her death.
