Lillian Irene (Luokkala) Berry, 83 of Castle Rock, passed away peacefully into her Savior's arms at the Hospice Care Center on July 18, 2005. She was born January 15, 1922 in Carlton County, MN to John and Hilda (Pera) Luokkala. After graduating in 1940 from Lincoln High School in Esko, a shy, young girl ventured West to Longview, Lillian lived in the local area for 65 years making Castle Rock her home for 50 years.

In 1941, Lillian married her true love, Robert Lee Berry. She was a homemaker and made a loving home for her family and others. Her family was her joy and she always had a ready smile and BIG hug for those who came to visit. Lillian was a member of the Castle Rock Church of the Nazarene. She loved the Lord and was a dedicated servant sharing her faith and love to the last. Ministering especially to the children, Lillian was a "Grandma' for advice. Without scolding ridiculing she would give life experiences in her own gentle way.

Surviving her are her son and daughter-in-law, Rev. Ron & Dawn Berry of Castle Rock; daughters and sons-in-law, Roberta & Elmo Wise of Ocean Park, Patti & Ron Trull of Longview, Lili & Bob Lydic of Castle Rock and Lisa Hill of Longview. Lillian was the middle child of fifteen children. Her surviving siblings are Elsie Herold of Longview, Dorothy Gauthier of Kelso, Hannah Horner, Esther Loyear, Ruth Williams, Dale Luokkala all of Battle Ground, and Marge Price of Lancaster, CA. She was blessed with fifteen grandchildren, twenty-six great grandchildren; as well as numerous nieces and nephews that loved their "Auntie Lili". She also had a very special friend Rita DeWeese. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Robert J. Berry; brothers Albin, Arthur, Hans, Oscar and Walter Luokkala; and a sister Pearl Sundvick. Lillian was also preceded in death by grandsons, Robert James Lydic and Luke Virgil Lydic.

Lillian enjoyed gardening, crossword puzzles, bird watching, the Mariners and sending cards and newspaper clippings acknowledging other's accomplishments. She had a gift of creating uniqueness out of nothingness. Lillian was also very funny, but yet enjoyed her quiet time. Not only was she daughter, sister, mother, grandma, and auntie... she was also a friend, loving the lovey and unlovely. A Celebration of Life will be at 11:00 AM Friday, July 22, 2005 at Castle Rock Church of the Nazarene with Pastors Barry Kennard and Russell Woodbeck officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to the Castle Rock Church of the Nazarene "Building Fund" PO Box 56, Castle Rock WA 9861. Columbia Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
