Graveside services for Maggie M. Easter, 96, of Portales will be at 10 AM, Thursday, June 11, 2009, in the Portales Cemetery with Rev. Joe Riley officiating. All family members and family friends will be honorary pallbearers. The family will receive visitors at the funeral home on Wednesday evening, June 10th from 6 to 8 PM.
Maggie M. Easter was born August 13, 1912, in Whitewright, TX to Isaac Lesley Bow and Minnie Farmer Bow, and passed away Friday, June 5, 2009, at Heartland Continuing Care Center in Portales, NM. She came with her parents, who homesteaded in 1915 in the community of Milnesand in southern Roosevelt County. She married Charley Cecil (Slick) Easter on May 22, 1930, in Portales. They moved from Milnesand to Portales in 1943. She was a homemaker and loved her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She enjoyed quilting as well as other hand crafts, exhibiting several quilts in the County fairs and other shows at Portales Senior Center. She also served as Secretary of the Portales Senior Center for a number of office terms and served on their Board for 20 plus years. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Portales.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband who died in 1988, a daughter Billie Louise Burnett in 2001 and her son-in-law, Robert Burnett in 1982, by two sisters, Nellie Brown and Amy Ella Ditto, a brother, Dow Bow, two half-brothers and two half-sisters.
She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Laverne and Larry Ahlstrom of Portales; four grandchildren, Cheryl Martin of Denton, TX, Carol (Joe) Hawkins, James Burnett and Andrew (Nikki) Burnett all of Albuquerque; and four great-grandchildren, Todd Martin of The Woodlands, TX, Phillip Martin of Covington, WA, and Kayla Burnett and Paul Hawkins both of Albuquerque. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
