ROBERT R. BEAMES OBITUARY

Funeral services for Robert Rex Beames, or as most referred to him as Bob, 67, of Ramona was held Saturday morning, September 17, 1994, at the Donahue Funeral Home Chapel, Herington. The Rev. Charles Norman officiated. Mr. Beames died Wednesday, Sept. 14, 1994, at the HCA Wesley Medical Center, Wichita.

Mr. Beames was born in Belleville, KS February 10, 1927 to William Lester and Bernice Ethal Colwell Beames, and having two brothers, Leslie Earl Beames and Curtis Rodney Beames. Robert graduated from Belleville High School in 1944.

Mr. Beames proudly served for the United States Navy, and served with the 20th USN Construction Regiment during World War II, stationed in Okinawa, Japan. After his tour of duty, he returned to Belleville, KS to begin a career as a Railroad Conductor for the Chicago, Rock Island and Pacific and later, the St. Louis Southwestern (Cotton Belt) Railway, retiring after 38 years.

Mr. Beames was married to Irene M. Engel on April 17, 1974, at Abilene.

Since the 1950s he lived in the Herington, KS area, a member of the United Transportaion Union local #506. In the late 1970s he made his residence in the Ramona, KS area.

Military committal services were held Monday, Sept. 19, at the Leavenworth National Cemetery, Leavenworth. A visitation was held Friday at the Donahue Funeral Chapel

Mr. Beames left behind his wife of 22 years, Irene Maxine Engel Beames, two children, Kimberly Sue Beames Pomo of Connecticut, Rusty Rex Beames of Kansas, and four grandchildren.
