Elder, Jacob Kenzie "Jake"


Jacob Kenzie "Jake" Elder, 90, died on Friday, March 14, 2008.

He was born in Choctaw, Ok., on May 31, 1917. At an early age his family moved to Tennessee where he attended Meigs County public schools. He retired from the trucking business and enjoyed working on small engines and anything mechanical. He loved the outdoors, yard work and his garden.

He was a member of Alpine Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents, James Thomas and Tennie Denton Elder; brother, John Elder; sister, Elizabeth Nance; half brothers, Arthur, Scott, and Lonnie Elder; half sister, Mary Ella Neil; and his special granddaughter, Jennifer (Jenny) Elizabeth Elder who died March 1, 2008.

He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Luretha Elder; one son, Steven M. Elder (Susan) of Monroe, N.C.; granddaughters, Vickie Elder of Wilkes-Barre, Pa., and Stephanie (Thomas J.) Daley of Monroe, N.C.; great-granddaughters, Mikaela and Annika Meeker; great-grandson, Daniel Jacob Daley; one brother, Thomas Woodrow Elder of Dayton, Tn.; several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday, at the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home with Rev. Jimmy Fowler officiating. Interment will follow at Hamilton Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive friends for visitation from 4-8 p.m. on Monday at the North Chapel.

Arrangements are made by Chattanooga Funeral Home Crematory and Florist 5401 Hwy 153, Hixson, Tn. 37343.
