ASTORIA - Lorraine P. Chapman, 96, died Friday, July 9, 2010, in Astoria. She was born Aug. 12, 1913, in Alfordsville, Ind., to Joseph Pope and Bonnie Grace Capps Pope.
Because her father was a Methodist minister and the family moved frequently to build new churches, she grew up in various cities in the western United States. As a younger child, she studied piano and had aspirations to become a concert pianist. She graduated from Normal College in Ashland, Ore., in 1934, where she obtained a teaching certificate. She taught in several public schools in Oregon and Southern California; teaching music, drama and English. She also composed several musicals and operettas.
In 1934 she married C. ANTON LINDSTROM. She later married DONALD CHAPMAN in 1958. Both husbands have preceded her in death. In 2007, she moved from Smith River, Calif., to Astoria.
Her hobbies included needlepoint, ceramics, flower arranging, music, playing piano, and spending time with her family and grandchildren.
Mrs. Chapman was past worthy matron of the Eastern Star Chapter in Garden Grove, Calif., past worthy matron of the Eastern Star Chapter in Crescent City, Calif., past worthy matron of the Eastern Star Chapter in Brookings, Ore., an Oregon State Officer and Installing Officer of the Eastern Star.
Survivors include her sons and daughters-in-law, Roland and Reta Lindstrom of Chinook and Carl and Henriette Lindstrom of Las Vegas, Nev.; daughter, Bonnie Lindstrom of Brookings, Ore..."
