James Litmer, 63, R.R.6, Greensburg, died at 7:50 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 28, 1988, in the Good Samaritan Hospital in Cincinnati.
He was born June 25, 1924, in Decatur County, the son of Leo and Cecilia Volk Litmer. He married Rita Haunert, who preceded him in death in 1977. In June of 1979, he married Thelma Lamping Grossman and she survives. He served in the U.S. Army in World War II. He owned Litmer Appliance Store, Greensburg. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, the VFW and the St. Johns' Catholic Church in Enochsburg. He was also a member of the Greensburg Area Chamber of Commerce and the Eagles Lodge in Batesville.
In addition to his wife, Thelma Litmer, he is survived by three sons, August "Gus" and Thomas Litmer, both of Greensburg, and Gregory Litmer, Indianapolis; four stepsons, David Grossman, Houston, Texas, Gary Grossman, Stirling Heights, Mich., and Timothy and John Grossman, both of Bloomington; three daughters, Mrs. Michael (Marilyn) Harley, Connersville, Mrs. George (Barbara) Beetz, and Mrs. James (Kathy) Hewitt, both of Greensburg; three brothers, Andrew Litmer, Batesville, and Daniel and Joseph Litmer, both of Greensburg; one sister, Mary Lou Meyer, Greensburg, and 13 grandchildren.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the St. John's Catholic Church, Enochsburg, with the Rev. John Geis officiating.
Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Porter-Oliger-Pearson Funeral Home, Greensburg.
A rosary will be prayed at the funeral home at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.
The family suggests that any memorials be in the form of contributions to the American Cancer Society.
