Camden, Sept. 21 - D. P. Kirkland died this morning at the home of his son, Shannon Kirkland at six o'clock. His health had been failing for some time. Mr. Kirkland was born 81 years ago at Flat Rock, in the upper part of this county. He married Miss Ellen Shannon of Westville, and four children survive him. They are: Mrs. E. C. Gross of Rock Hill; Mrs. R. W. Young of Rock Hill; Mrs. J. M. Watts of Bethune and Shannon Kirkland of this city.
Besides his children, Mr. Kirland is survived by a number of other relatives in this county. He spent four years in Virginia in the Confederate army. He is a brother of Richard Kirkland, the boy here of Fredericksburg, to whom a handsome foundation was dedicated here on Memorial Day.
Mr. Kirkland's remains were buried this afternoon at four o'clock at Westville.
