Matilda Volk, 82, 225 S. East, died Thursday evening about 10 p.m. at the Decatur County Memorial Hospital. Mrs. Volk had become ill earlier at her home, and was taken to the hospital, but her death was still unexpected.
Mrs. Volk had lived in the New Point area until moving to Greensburg in 1962. She was a member of the St. Mary's Catholic Church.
She was born Nov. 29, 1902, in Hamburg, the daughter of Adam and Christina Hittle Gigrich. She was married to Leo F. Volk Feb. 18, 1925, and he preceded her in death May 19, 1958. She is survived by one daughter, Helen Nora Stuhrenberg; who resided with her mother; four grandchildren: Teresa Stuhrenberg, Indianapolis, Anthony Stuhrenberg, R.R.10, Greensburg, Rose Stuhrenberg and Thomas Stuhrenberg, both of R.R.6, Greensburg.
She was preceded in death by her son-in-law, Albert H. Stuhrenberg, and one great-granddaughter, Tracey Diane Stuhrenberg.
The services will be today at 1 p.m. at St. Johns Catholic Church in Enochsburg, with the Rev. Ambrose Schneider officiating, and with burial in the church cemetery. There will be no visitation. Arrangements were handled by the Porter-Oliger-Pearson Funeral Home.
