Andrew J. Gault was born in May 1817 in Fayette County, Pennsylvania. He married Martha Ann Cunningham in Fayette County, Pennsylvania on 9 Nov 1845. Their children were James, Sarah, Andrew J., John B., Martha Louise, Sidney Anne, Prussia Ellen, Margaret "Maggie", Amanda "Mandy," Oliver F., and Rosetta.
At the age of 44, Andrew Gault mustered in on 7 Sep 1861 to serve in Company "C" of the Second West Virginia Cavalry. He was discharged in June 1865. According to the 1890 census of Widows and Veterans, during the war, he sustained a wound to his right shoulder, and incurred heart disease.
The death of Andrew J. Gault occurred 21 Oct 1900 in Pleasants County, W. Va. His wife died 8 May 1902. They are buried at Malone Cemetery, Pleasants County.
