James "Jim" Archie Lee Jr., 75, Lakeview, died June 4, 2001, of emphysema at the Lake District Hospital in Lakeview.

Mr. Lee was born April 27, 1926, in Louann, Ark., to James and Alice (Yarbrough) Lee.

He grew up and went to school in the Broken Bow, Okla., area.

He enlisted in the Army on Sept. 13, 1944, serving in The Philippines during World War II, and was honorably discharged on July 9, 1947.

A short time later, Mr. Lee moved to Lakeview and married Nancy Gillmore there on April 5, 1951.

He worked in the woods and at various sawmills in Lakeview before starting a career with the U.S. Postal Service in 1954. He continued working for the postal service until 1983 and, upon retiring, operated a lawn mower repair business until 1997.

Mr. Lee was a member of the Thomas Creek Grange since 1957.

He enjoyed black-powder shooting, hunting, fishing, camping, gold panning, rock hounding, wintering in Arizona, and spending time with his grandchildren.

He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Doris and Alvin Havel of Merrill; daughter, Rebecca Zurfas of Lakeview; son, Jeremy Lee of Lakeview; brothers and sisters-in-law, Bill and Lois Lee of Eugene, Cloe and Barb Lee of Dorris and Rickie and Joanne Lee of Kennewick, Wash.; grandsons and their wives, Paul and Jaye Havel, Tony and Amber Havel, and Shawn and Rebecca Havel; grandson, Keith Lee; granddaughter, Jennifer Lee; great-grandsons, Joseph and Evan Havel; and numerous nieces and nephews.

His wife, a daughter, a grandson, a sister, and a brother preceded him in death.
