Mrs. Sophia Davis Burkhart, 86, died Monday at 11:45 p.m. at the home of a son, Earl K. Burkhart of Asbury. She was the widow of James M. Burkhart who had been associated with others in the development of the marble industry in Knox County for many years, She was the daughter of Robert Newton Davis and Eliza Ann Luttrell Davis and was the last member of her family. She was born in Knox County Feb.6,1871. Mrs. Burkhart had spent all her married life in Asbury and was a member of Asbury Methodist Church. Funeral services will be conducted Sunday afternoon at 2 p.m. at Mann's Chapel, Dr. Charles A. Trentham, Pastor of First Baptist Church and Rev.Sam E. Leidig, Pastor of Asbury Methodist Church, officiating. Interment will be in Asbury Cemetery. (published in the Knoxville Journal Saturday June 9, 1945 and in "At Rest" by Robert A. McGinnis)
