Obituary

Died, of paralysis, May 11, 1900, Thomas T. Cadwalader, aged 68 years. The deceased was born in Fulton County, Illinois, in 1832. He was married in 1854 to Miss Mary J. Brock. They moved to Kansas in 1859 and at the time of the Quantrell raid were living at Olathe. Mr. Cadwalader, with our other citizens, was taken prisoner and held while the town was being robbed.

In 1862 Mr. Cadwalader and family returned to Illinois where they remained for four years and then again moved to Kansas locating in Franklin county where for fifteen years he was engaged in farming. He then sold his property and moved to Irene, Pratt county, where he was postmaster and kept a grocery store for three years. In 1887 the family moved to Stevens county and opened a restaurant at Woodsdale. They were there throughout the exciting county seat fight and Mr. Cadwalader was acquainted with the parties to the feud which terminated in the brutal murder of Hon. S.N. Wood. In 1896 he made his last move when he located in this county.

The deceased was raised a quaker and he always held to that faith. He was a Mason for more than forty years. He was beloved by all who knew him for his noble qualities and high attainments. He was a large hearted, high souled gentleman; a loving husband, a generous father, an honest, upright and kind neighbor. He leaves an aged wife and four children to mourn his departure.
