From the Falls City Journal, November 23, 1935:
“Former Resident Burned to Death. Ralph V. Kelley, 44, formerly of Rulo, was buried at his old home this afternoon. The former Richardson county resident was fatally burned in Omaha Thursday. He was working as a night watchman on a paving project. He went to sleep on a pile of sheep hides and had built a small fire to keep him warm. He was awakened by the flames which had caught the sheep hided and his own clothes. With his clothing in flames, he ran to a nearby home and the flames were extinguished by wrapping him in a blanket. He was fatally burned, however, before the flames were put out. Mr. Kelley lived in Rulo virtually all of his life until a few years ago when he moved to Omaha. He is survived by his widow; a son, James, and three daughters, Ethel, Margaret, and Julia.”
