John "Poppy" Allen, 74, of Arlington passed away at his home surrounded by his family Saturday, June 6, 2009.
Funeral: 10 a.m. Thursday at Arlington Funeral Home, 1221 E. Division, Arlington. Visitation: Wednesday at the funeral home, with family present 6 to 8 p.m.
Memorials: If desired, in lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in honor of John to Grace Baptist Church of Arlington, 3001 W. Green Oaks Blvd., Arlington, Texas 76016.
John was born Feb. 10, 1935, to B.F. and Annie House Allen in a rural community near Blossom. John was a great family man who loved the Lord and his family, especially his granddaughter, Amanda. John served as chairman of the deacons for 24 years at his church.
John graduated from Blossom High School in May 1953. He attended Paris Junior College in Paris, Texas, East Texas Baptist College in Marshall and Texas Wesleyn University in Fort Worth.
John married Mary Kenemore of Deport on Feb. 25, 1956, and to that union was born one son, Johnny.
The family would like to give thanks and appreciation for the care that was given to John by Vitas Hospice during his illness.
