Winchester Herald, 19 July 1888
OBITUARY
The friends of Mrs. John L. Aitken were startled late last week by the intelligence of her sudden death.
Her illness of from four to five days duration, terminated fatally on Thursday afternoon, only a few being aware of her sickness.
We desire to record that Mrs. Aitken was long a resident in this community, and well known to a large circle of friends as a devoted Christian, a good neighbor, and a kind and affectionate wife and mother.
To the stricken husband and four children who survive, sincere sympathy of many friends is kindly tendered.
The services on Friday were conducted at the home of Mr. Aitken near Dunavant by Rev. D. H. Coulter of the R. P. Church of which the deceased was a worthy member; and a large company followed the remains to their place of rest by the side of the two little ones gone before, at whose graves the tears of the loving mother, now forever dried, had so often fallen.
