Samuel married Elizabeth Whittingham on June 19, 1682 in Lynn, Massachusetts. Elizabeth was the daughter of William Whittingham and Sarah Lawrence. She had been raised under the guardianship of Rev. William Hubbard. Samuel and Elizabeth had two children.
1. Hannah, b. 1684 in Lynn; d. 1788 in Boston; m. William Clarke on Oct 11, 1705 in Ipswich. They had two children.
2. Elizabeth, b. 1687 in Lynn; d. 1703.
Samuel was the third generation of "Samuels" of the prominent Appleton family. He was Justice in the community, and his father was a Colonel and a judge before him.
Samuel died at the age of 70, in Ipswich.
