Winton Gackstetter, 83, died on Tuesday, May 26, 2009, at Riverview Health in Crookston, MN.

Winton Weeks Gackstetter was born September 10, 1925 in Lincoln County, MN, the son of Will L. and Lora (Weeks) Gackstetter. He graduated LaPorte High School in 1943 and entered the U.S. Navy, serving from 1943-1946. Following his honorable discharge, he attended Bemidji State College, graduating with a teaching degree in 1950. He taught shop in Red Lake Falls and returned to Bemidji State College to obtain a Masters Degree in teaching.

On December 18, 1949, Winton married Ruth Ann Morrissey in LaPorte on the home place on Steamboat Lake. In 1950, the couple moved to Red Lake Falls, where they have since resided. He was the shop teacher until 1972, then became the vocational education instructor. He was director of the Regional Interdistrict Council for handicapped students, retiring in 1984.

Winton was a member of the Presbyterian Church, Red Lake Falls, a member of the American Legion Post # 22, Red Lake Falls, where he once served as Post Commander, and the Masonic Lodge, Thief River Falls.

He is survived by wife, Ruth Ann Gackstetter; children: Shelley (Kent) Spears, Baudette, MN, Lynette (Bill) Krause, Fairbanks, AK, Melani (Chad) Beckel, Baudette, MN and Randal (Connie) Gackstetter, Mendota Heights, MN; 6 grandchildren; and 4 great grandchildren: a brother, Curwood (Betty) Gackstetter, East Wenatchee, WA, along with several nieces and nephews.

Winton was preceded in death by his parents and a nephew, Kerry Gackstetter.

Funeral Service: 1:00 p.m., Sunday, May 31, 2009 at Bethany Lutheran Church, Red Lake Falls, with Pastor Tom Potter officiating.

Visitation: 5 – 8 p.m., Saturday, at the Presbyterian Church, Red Lake Falls, with a 7 p.m. Prayer Service and for one hour prior to service at Bethany Church, Sunday.

Burial: Oak Grove Cemetery, Red Lake Falls, MN.
