Carl and Christiane came from Germany with their children, and arrived in America on the 15th of October 1853. "Carl William" is the name used on his "final" Certifcate of Naturalization, dated: 22 March 1860 - issued in Cass Co. Illinois, by the Clerk of the Circuit Court, Beardstown, Illinois. Name on his certificate of allegiance to the USA appears as (in his own handwriting): Carl Wilhelm Küchler. Believed to have been born in "Lichtenberg, bei Freiberg, Sachsen". Wife, and son Hermann, are buried at his side in Diamond Grove cemetery, Jacksonville, IL. Buried 3-Apr-1896. Probable date of death 30-May-1896. [Note, -ed]: "Pfotenhauer" was probably the name of the Lutheran pastor.

Due to old age, he had been living with his son, Oscar in Jacksonville, IL. Died at Passavant hospital. 82 years old. Survived by a daughter, Mrs. Peter Baujan of Meredosia; and four sons: Oscar Kuechler of Jacksonville, Robert A. Kuechler of Jacksonville, Herman Kuechler of Winchester, and William Kuechler of Winchester. [Also survived by Edward E. of Rushville, IL. -ed.] Buried on April 3, 1896 (as per Diamond Grove Cemetery Records).
