Stella Mae Fernandes Stephens, 76, of Springfield died Thursday, Oct. 7, 2004, at St. John's Hospice.
She was born Aug. 29, 1929, in Jacksonville, the daughter of Percy and Edna Fernandes.
She married Donald R. Stephens in 1947 in Springfield; he died in 1997.
Mrs. Stephens worked for the Illinois Comptrollers office for 25 years, retiring in 1990.
She was a member of Calvary Temple Christian Center, Sangamon County HCE, AARP and Young at Heart.
She volunteered at the senior center for several years.
Survivors: two sons, Donald "Donn" Stephens of Springfield and Ronald "Ron" (wife, Margaret) Stephens of Federal Way, Wash.; daughter, Susan (husband, Russ) Fons of Wausau, Wis.; 10 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Cremation rites were accorded by Bisch Crematory.
Graveside services: Camp Butler National Cemetery, the Rev. Paul Rose officiating.
