Willie was named for his father, grandfather and great-grandfather. After the death of his father James in 1880, he moved to Washington, D. C. where there were better opportunities for employment. He learned the carpentry trade and later encouraged his widowed mother to also move to Washington with his 3 younger siblings. Willie met Alice V. Hughes and they were married in 1887.
At the young age of 25, Willie died from typhoid fever, leaving a wife and 2 infant children. Alice Hughes Demar remarried to Walter Shackford before 1900 and moved to N.J. with the children. After 1900, Paul moved to Oregon to reside with his maternal aunt, Marguerite Maginnis and her family. His sister Alice moved to Washington D.C. to reside with another maternal aunt and her family. Alice later married and resided in the DC Metropolitan area.
