DOWNS, CHARLES E. "PAPA," 83, of Louisville, died Monday, January 5, 2009 at the Hosparus inpatient unit at Norton Healthcare Pavilion. He was a native of Leitchfield KY, a former employee of the old A & P Bakery for 32 years, a retired employee of the U.S. Postal Service, a Navy veteran of World War II and a member of Guardian Angels Catholic Church. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 59 years, Ethel L. Fischer Downs. He is survived by his children, Sharon Downs, Rick Downs, the boys, and Steve Downs (Linda); granddaughter, Stephenie Hood; grandsons, Doug, Mick and Steven Downs; great-granddaughters, Alex and Cameron Downs; great-grandsons, David, Matthew and Andrew Hood, Shane Daniels (Downs), and Isaac and Kyle Downs; his stepmother, Georgia Downs; sisters, Pat Miller, Karen Madison, Debra Lawrence and Martha Jane Pearl; and his country kids. His funeral service will be held 10 a.m. Thursday at Embry-Bosse Funeral Home, 2723 Preston Highway, with burial in Pennsylvania Run Cemetery. Visitation is 2-7 p.m. Wednesday. Memorial gifts may be made to Hosparus.
