He was born Dec. 14, 1918, in Elgin, Neb., to Carl Walter Carlson and Esther Thompson.
He was raised and educated in Nebraska and Idaho. He served his country for four years in the U.S. Army during World War II.
He married Elinor Carey on June 3, 1946, in Trinidad, Colo., and was later sealed in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. They recently celebrated 63 years together.
He worked his life as a mechanic. Among his accomplishments was his love of rebuilding Model T and Model A cars.
He had a great appreciation for music and passed it along to his children and grandchildren.
He will be remembered for his strong devotion to his family and friends.
He was preceded in death by a son, Wesley Merle; six brothers; two sisters; and three great-grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife, Elinor; and five children, Carl (Sandy) Carlson, Don (Janice) Carlson, Lynn (Laurie) Carlson, Calvin (Myra) Carlson and Karen (Phillip) Mayne; 27 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, June 15, at the Parker LDS Ward with Bishop Doug Hanks officiating. Friends may call from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. today at Bidwell Funeral Home in St. Anthony and from 10 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. Monday prior to services at the church.
