Pete R. Bauer, age 73, passed away on Friday, June 12, 2009 at Valparaiso Care and Rehabilitation Center in Valparaiso.
Born in Valparaiso, IN, on August 7, 1935 to the late Karl W.R. and Francis (nee Brody) Bauer.
As a life-long resident of Valparaiso, Roland graduated from Valparaiso High School in 1954 then enlisted in the US Navy as an equipment operator with the Naval Construction Batalion (Seabees), where he obtained the Rank of 1st Class Petty Officer. After an honorable discharge from the Navy he returned home and started the Bauer Tree Service which he operated for over 40 years. Roland also worked as a machinist at McGill Manufacturing for 35 years, retiring in 1999, a 30 year member of the McGill Retiree's Club, and Life-Member of the Moose Lodge.
Roland was the loving father of sons: Karl (Jaime) Bauer of Valparaiso, IN, James "Jamie" Bauer of Harrisburg, IL; grandfather to Evan, Andrew, and Vivian Bauer, Michael Rodich, and Faith Hiatt, all of Valparaiso, IN, and Brandon Bauer of TN; also surviving: sister, Karleen (Calvin) Heaster of Valparaiso, IN; sister-in-law, Beda Bauer of Valparaiso, IN; numerous nieces and nephews.
Preceded in death by daughter, Johanna Bauer; brother, Jimmie Bauer; and nephew, Nate Bauer. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, June 16, 2009 at 11:30 am at the Dykes Funeral Home, 2305 N. Campbell St., Valparaiso, IN. Pastor Ryan McDowell officiating.
Interment, Graceland Cemetery, Valparaiso, IN. Friends may call on Monday, June 15, 2009 from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm at the Dykes Funeral Home, with a Prayer Service at 7:30 pm.
