Georgia Governor, U.S. Continental Congressman. He was admitted to the bar in 1757 and commenced the practice of law in Savannah, Georgia. He was elected speaker of the Georgia Royal Assembly in 1772 and was president of the Georgia Provincial Congress in 1775. In 1775, he was elected as a Delegate to the First Continental Congress and in 1776, was elected the first Provincial President Chief of Georgia. Two days before his death, he signed the Georgia State Constitution, transferring his position from President to Governor of Georgia, making him the first Governor of Georgia, serving until his death. He was also the father of U.S. Congressman William Bellinger Bulloch and the great-great-grandfather of U.S. President Theodore Roosevelt. Bulloch County, Georgia is named after him.
