Miller recorded a portion of the 1930 federal census in Collin County, including the page on which he was listed, and his penmanship was unusually neat and elegant for a census taker. In April 1930, he was an enumerator in Precinct 7 of Collin County for 28 days. He visited 451 dwellings and recorded 472 families consisting of 1,603 people, including the towns of Nevada, Josephine, and Royse City. During World War II, he was a carpenter in Dallas. When he died, Miller was co-owner of a drapery shop in Lufkin. He had one child with his first wife, Foy McClendon, and one child with his second wife, Fay Miller.
