On Dec. 7, 1941, Virgil was on board the USS California, in Pearl Harbor, when the Japanese attacked. Virgil was engaged at sea for the rest of the war and later in Korea. He drew shore duty and served in the Armed Forces Radio and Television office in Hollywood, CA, until he retired.
