William Gibson Morgan
Born June 30, 1851 in Glen Hope, Clearfield County, PA and died May 27, 1919 in Clymer, Indiana County, PA.

Son of Stephen D. and Ann Maria (pronounced like Mariah) (Mitchell or Ellis) Morgan.

Brother of:
1) Joshua Mitchell Morgan; b) Dec 21, 1843 in York, York County, PA; d) Jul 8, 1920 in Philadelphia, Philadelphia County, PA; married Catharin C. Lawler on Nov 9, 1864.
2) John Henry Morgan; b) Sept 22, 1845 in York, York County, PA; d) Aug 31, 1921 in Phillipsburg, Centre County, PA; married Sarah Jane Starr on January 14, 1866.
3) Zachariah Taylor Morgan; b) in 1848 in Glen Hope, Clearfield County, PA and died Nov 9, 1908 in Parsons, Tucker County, WVA; married Julia (Ashcraft) Tibbett, a widow, on April 16, 1871.

Husband of Sarah Ann (Horn) Morgan. They married abt 1865. She was the daughter of Andrew and Eva Keturah (Rarig) Horn.

William and Sarah had 10 children. They are in order of birth:
1) Dawnsella or Donsela (correct spelling unknown) "Donnie" Morgan; b) abt 1866; d) abt 1882; age 16
2) Stephen Lemuel Morgan; b) abt 1869; d) abt 1887

4) Andrew Franklin "Frank" Morgan; b) abt 1873 ; d) unknown
5) William Melvin "Mell" Morgan; b) Dec 25, 1875; d) Nov 1, 1918
6) John Joshua Morgan; b) Mar 27, 1878; d) Dec 2, 1954

10) Etta Mae Morgan (twin); b) Apr 29, 1886; d) in 1887 (lived about 1 year)

Zachariah and William were both born in Glen Hope, Clearfield County, PA. Joshua and John were born in Little York, York County, PA. Little York was a name used back then to differentiate York, PA from New York, NY; but the actual name was only York. Their father, Stephen was a blacksmith and he taught this trade to all his sons before the Civil War.

When William married Sarah, they lived on property owned by her parents near Nordmont, LaPorte Township in Sullivan County, PA, where he learned farming from his father-in-law. About 18 months to 2 years after both her parents died (March 1879), they moved to Truman, near Emporium in Cameron County, PA where William became a lumberman. These sons followed him in this trade; Stephen, Frank, Mell, John, Ellrie, and Ernest. The family moved around PA every few years as lumbermen following the lumber camps. They also lived in Ohio for a year and the eastern shore of MD in Somerset County for 3-4 years. After leaving MD, they moved back to PA and settled in Indiana County for the remainder of their lives. Both William and Sarah died in Clymer, Indiana County, PA.

NOTE: There have been a few researchers on Ancestry.com over the last 12 + years who have refused to believe William Gibson Morgan was a child of Stephen D. Morgan and his wife Ann Maria Morgan because no 1860 census exists for this family. Since William Gibson Morgan was born in 1851, he is obviously not listed on the 1850 census with his older brother's Joshua, John and Zachariah.

Today (Jan 30, 2023) DNA testing matched William Gibson Morgan descendants to 3 separate descendants of Joshua Mitchell Morgan who did DNA testing! DNA test results confirmed what has been known in my family for generations. The DNA results also confirmed they are whole brothers, not half as some have speculated.
Zachariah did not have children so there will not be any DNA matching from him.
Looking to see if any of John Henry Morgan's descendants did a DNA test and are matched. Will update when I find new results.

Additional Information: A male Morgan descendant of William Gibson Morgan provided a "specimen" for DNA testing with a reputable company, FTDNA, that tests on the 1 unique gene that father's only pass down to their sons, not daughters. This testing was done to hopefully match to others on that 1 unique gene to solve the mystery of who is Stephen D. Morgan's father since no one has been able to solve that in over 30 years. This is not autosomal testing. FTDNA also does the same autosomal matching that Ancestry does but Ancestry does not test on the 1 unique gene. The FTDNA DNA test results on that 1 unique gene 100% matched to 3 other's and 100% matched with 1 or 2 mutations to 2 others. All the people that matched are descended from James Morgan born circa 1607 in Llandaff, Glamorganshire, Wales and died in 1685 in Groton, New London, CT and his wife Margery Hill born circa 1611. Therefore, one must conclude that Stephen D. Morgan also descends from James and Margery (Hill) Morgan. I am providing this information so others who descend from Stephen D. Morgan can research on descendants of James Morgan to hopefully help me in filling in the 200 year gap between James Morgan and Stephen D. Morgan.
