Amos Parmer Colton was the oldest son of Jeremiah Colton and Rosette Mariah Nichols. His mother passed away while he was still young, and he grew up primarily away from his father and two younger brothers. Fortunately, in later years he reunited with his brothers and with one, started a fishing boat charter service off the Gulf Coast. These two brothers were known as "Amos n' Andy."

Amos lived primarily in upstate New York, and later Florida. He married Emma Melinda Wilbur (1888-1959) and had one daughter, Carrie May Colton.

As of today in 2009, Amos has numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and over 27 great-great and great-great-great children, spread across the USA.
