Mildred Elaine Colbert, 93 of What Cheer died Monday, March 24, 2008 at the Manor House Care Center in Sigourney. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM, Wednesday, March 26 at the Harden Funeral Chapel in What Cheer with Pastor Frances Baumert officiating. Visitation will begin after 10:00 AM on Tuesday with the family present from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at the Harden Funeral Chapel. Burial will be at the Springfield Cemetery near Delta. Memorials may be made to the What Cheer Fire and Rescue Unit.
Mildred Elaine Colbert was born May 27, 1914 in What Cheer, Iowa the daughter of John and Mary Newcomb Shirlaw. She graduated from the What Cheer High School in 1934. Mildred then received her teaching certificate and taught at the country school south of Delta. On December 21, 1947 she was united in marriage to William Colbert at the Baptist Parsonage in What Cheer. Mildred attended the Christian Church in What Cheer for several years. While she was able she enjoyed gardening and canning, however what truly fulfilled Mildred was time spent with her family and reading scripture from her bible.

Her memory will be honored by her son Charles and his wife, Lana Colbert of West Des Moines, two brothers; Dave (Delores) Newcomb, Ray Newcomb both of What Cheer and a brother-in-law, Everett James of Sigourney. Mildred is preceded in death by her parents, husband William (1992), a brother, Jack and his wife, Leta Faye Newcomb, three sisters; Juanita and her husband, Kenneth Chapman, Leola James, Shirley and her husband, Robert Holland and sister-in-law, Ramona Newcomb.
