Betty Darlene Snodgrass was born on June 10, 1923, in Washington, Iowa. She was the only child born to Lester Merrill and Hazel Marie Cissna Snodgrass. Betty attended school in What Cheer; completing the eleventh grade. Betty was united in marriage to Merle Beasely and to this union two daughters were born: Sally Lee on June 29, 1943, and Patricia Ann on April 6, 1945. She was later married to childhood friend, Roy Clarence Green in 1947. She and Roy were blessed with four more children: Penny Marie, Mickey Leroy, Dennis Merrill and Cindy Sue. The family made their home in the What Cheer area. During this time, Betty held various jobs. First she worked for the Dr. R. In October 1986, after celebrating 39 years of marriage, Roy passed away at the Ottumwa Regional Health Center. Upon his death, Betty's mother, Hazel Snodgrass moved in and became her companion. They lived together until Hazel passed on June 25, 2003. In early September of 2005, Betty's declining health necessitated a move to the New Sharon Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
