Wayne was responsible for getting to the Deerfield Free Methodist Church 1/2 hour early to unlock it, set the thermostats, and get the bulletins out. During Sunday School and worship service he was the person who counted the attendance and placed the numbers on the plaque at the front of the church each Sunday. Wayne also passed out the Sunday School attendance books with offering envelopes and picked them back up for the Sunday School Secretary to add up the figures.
During the summer Wayne would pick flowers from his gardens at home and arrange them in pretty bouquets to be placed in front of the pulpit. Some of the flower bouquets were of Lilacs, Iris, Dahlias, Zinnias and Gladiolus.
