Howard E. Ammerman Jr., Lt. Col. U.S. Army, Ret., died Tuesday, June 2, 2009 at Wuesthoff Hospice Care Center of cancer. He was the son of the late Howard and Lillian Ammerman of Akron, OH. He is survived by his wife, Betty of Viera; daughters, Ardell Gramlich of Greenwood, AR and Lois Long of Orlando; granddaughters, Sandra Green of Greenwood, AR, Catherine Baltz and husband John of Fayetteville, AR; four great-grandchildren, Cassie, Ashley, C.J., and Amanda of Greenwood, AR; nephew, Russell Dorsey and family; and niece, Nancy Dorsey. He was preceded in death by his sister and brother-in-law, Margaret and Jim Dorsey of Akron, OH. Col. Ammerman served in the regular Army for 29 and a half years, with many overseas and stateside assignments. He was the holder of many service ribbons,and a 1940 graduate of Riverside Military Academy. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree at University of Maryland at College Park. He was a graduate of Ordinance Officer Advance Course and Command and General Staff college. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He will be greatly missed by family and friends. A visitation will he held on Saturday, June 6, 2009 from 10 to 11 a.m., with a funeral service following at 11 a.m., at Florida Memorial Funeral Home. Entombment will take place at Florida Memorial Gardens.
