Obit: The Kentucky Standard, Monday, 7-09-1984
"A Former St. Francis resident, Mrs. Mary Ada Mattingly of Bardstown, died at 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 4, at Flaget Memorial Hospital where she was admitted the day before. She was 87. She was the widow of James Benedict Mattingly, and a native of Marion County, daughter of the late George Thomas Mattingly and Maggie Sudie Holtshouser Mattingly. Mrs. Mattingly is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Jack (Inez) Morgan, Bardstown; Mrs. Joseph (Catherine) Thornsberry, Culvertown, and Mrs. Everett(Viola) Jackson of New Haven; three sons, Clyde and Marty Mattingly of Loretto and Raphael "Bunk" Mattingly of Bardstown. Another daughter, Mrs. Ellis Jackson is deceased. Also surviving are 37 grandchildren; 48 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Octavia Lucas of New Haven, and Mrs. Winnie Woods of New Hope; and a brother, Bernard Mattingly of St. Francis. Funeral Mass was offered at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Francis of Assisi Church, St. Francis, by the Rev. David W. Denneler. Interment was in the church cemetery. A prayer service was conducted Thursday night at the Mattingly Funeral Home, Loretto. Buried in St. Francis of Assisi Cemetery, St. Francis, Ky; Cemetery 2; Section 20."
