US Congressman. He attended the University of Vermont, studied law, was admitted to the bar in 1839 and commenced to practice law in East Berkshire, Vermont. He was appointed justice of the peace of East Berkshire, in 1840, serving until he moved to New York City, in 1848 and then engaged in the distilling business. In 1855, he was elected as a Whig to the Thirty-fourth Congress, but never attended a session due to illness. He later had regular attendance at the sittings of the House, serving (1856-57). After his term he was supervisor of the town of Northfield, New York, (1865-66) and a member of the New York State Assembly, in 1866.
