Clareine C. Brochu, 80, of Ashland Manor died Thursday at William W. Backus Hospital in Norwich.

She was born May 19, 1917, in Plainfield, daughter of the late Wilfred and Josephine Gervais.

Mrs. Brochu married Louis J. Brochu Sr. on Nov. 12, 1938, in St. Mary Church in Jewett City. He predeceased her on Oct. 24, 1990.

She was a communicant of St. Mary Church in Jewett City, and a member of the prayer group and Bible study of that parish.

Mrs. Brochu was the first woman elected as secretary of the Woman's Auxiliary for the Veterens of Foreign Wars Post 10,004 of Jewett City in 1959.

Survivors include her children, Leona Minski and Doris Gaudette, both of Jewett City. Louis Brochu Jr. of Sterling, and Joyce Barry of Norwich; 17 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Ozilda Kozial and Caroline Cholewa, both of Jewett City; one brother, Wilfred Gervais of Plainfield; numerous nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by one daughter, Maried Theresa Brochu; one grandson Michael Pedro; one great grandson, Joey Rodgers; and two sisters, Marie Rose Zajac and Rita Przyborowski.
