His mother, Phebe R (Rebecca) Powers Church, received a Mother's Pension. She was a resident of Hartford, Van Buren County, Michigan. Her husband, Ira Church, died in the Springs of 1862. The pension was transferred to the St Paul, Minn. office 31 Dec 1870. Phebe Church was living in the household of her daughter, Lavina Lewis, at Elba, Winona, Minnesota in the 1870 Federal Census. She was dropped from the pensioner roll by the Milwaukee, Wisconsin Agency after not claiming her payment since 4 June 1875, for 3 years as of Nov 1878.
