Terra Eakman (15) killed when car she was in crossed center line, hit a curb and a tree.

Terra Lynn Eakman was described as a "very bright" student with a world of potential ahead of her.

Her sister, Christi Moyers of Decatur, said Eakman hadn't made up her mind what kind of career to pursue, but was interested in teaching, law and medicine.

"Anything she put her mind to, she accomplished," Moyers said. "She was very adamant that she was going to go to college but hadn't decided what she wanted to do yet."

Eakman, of Decatur, who turned 15 a month ago and was a freshman at Boyd High School, died in a car wreck late Saturday in Azle.

"She was a beautiful child inside and out, independent, very head strong," Moyers said. "She loved her family and her friends. She loved music. She was the first one to stand up for something if he she didn't think it was right."

Boyd High School coach and Spanish teacher Kari Kundert had Eakman in her Spanish I class and described her as a quiet, sweet girl.

"She was well-liked and she's going to be missed," Kundert said.

Bettye Beard, who teaches keyboarding and career investigations at Boyd Middle School, taught Eakman for two years when she was at the middle school and described her as a "very bright" student.

"She was an original, (was) very creative and did her own thing," Beard said. "She was a leader and not a follower. She knew what she wanted and had her head on straight."

Beard said many students visited her classroom yesterday afternoon to talk.

"The kids thought a lot of her," she said.

Eakman was a passenger in a car that hit a tree in the 1100 block of Boyd Road around 11 p.m. Saturday, according to Azle Police Chief Steve Myers. The car's driver, Troy Allen Craig, 18, of Boyd, is in good condition at Harris Methodist Hospital in Fort Worth. The other passenger, a 15-year-old female from Boyd, suffered serious but non-life threatening injuries and is at John Peter Smith Hospital in Fort Worth, Myers said.

Myers would not release her name. Moyers, who also had her name but declined to release it, said she thought the girl attended school in Boyd at one time but was not sure where she attended school now.

Boyd High School Principal Jack Williams said the injured girl did not attend Boyd High School. Craig was a starting offensive lineman on the 2004 and 2005 Yellowjacket football teams. The 2004 team won the state 2A Division I championship.

Myers said Craig was driving his 1997 Ford Escort northbound on Boyd Road, or Farm Road 730, when he crossed over the center turn lane and continued over to southbound lanes, hit a curb and then struck a tree. Both he and Eakman, in the front passenger seat, were wearing seatbelts and their airbags deployed. The female in the back seat was not wearing a seatbelt.

There were no witnesses to the crash. Someone drove by the wreck moments after it happened and alerted police, Myers said.

Azle Police have not been able to interview Craig, so any pontential charges are pending, Myers said.

"There's no indication of drugs or alcohol," Myers said.

Myers said he expected an autopsy to be performed on Eakman.

Counselors from other schools and churches were available for students this week, Williams said.

"We've had several students take advantage of that, but I don't know the number," he said on Monday. "They've been coming and going all day."
