Major John Kendrick Murphy, Jr. is the son of John Kendrick Murphy, Sr. (1917-1959) and Mary Elizabeth English (1917-1999). He married Susan Elizabeth Riel (1946- ) on 12 February 1972 in Washington, D. C. He served in the U. S. Marines in Viet Nam; then later served in the Rhodesian and South African Armies. He Received two Bronze Stars and a Purple Heart. He was killed in action while serving in the South African Army.
